The Federal Government has directed the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, to deploy policemen to all federal universities in the country in its bid to ensure resumption of academic activities in universities on or before December 4. The University of Nigeria chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities on Friday said its members would not resume work on Monday unless their demands are met. The UNN-ASUU also had harsh words for the Minister of Education, Dr. Nyesom Wike, for issuing the order directing lecturers to resume work on Monday or get sacked. The union, however, told newsmen that it wouldn't react officially to Wike's order until President Goodluck Jonathan speaks. A Federal High Court in Abuja today sentenced Talal Ahmad Roda (pictured above), one of the three Lebanese men arrested in May 2013 in connection with illegal possessions of weapon, to life imprisonment. Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo today Friday November 29th apologized for the commentshe made to a widow in Benin during an inspection tour on Mission Road, in the state capital, a fortnight ago. A 22-year-old man, Eji Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for the alleged murder of a 39-year-old trader, Sylvanus Okoye. According to the police, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death at his home on Ezemegbu Drive, Okota in August. The suspect, however, explained that he killed the deceased in self-defence. He alleged that on the day of the incident, Okoye had attempted to rape him.
